Many pupils at both Cumnock and Auchinleck Academies have been taking part in projects linked to Knockroon. One group developed and marketed miniature buckets of "reindeer food". 100 were sold to Hope Homes who have been selling them in the Knockroon visitor centre. The idea is that children sit the reindeer food out on Christmas Eve, ready for Santa arriving on his sleigh. It is hoped that pupils have learnt valuable lessons about business with this activity. Many more collaborations are in the pipeline.
After Christmas, two groups of Auchinleck and Cumnock Academy pupils will be working on site every week at Knockroon. They will gain invaluable hands on experience of traditional joinery and building skills. The pupils will be making compost bins, bin storage sheds, invertebrate hotels.
