Cumnock has a range of independent, family-run shops where individuality and personal service beat large shopping venues hands down. Whether you are looking for the perfect birthday present, a new television or groceries, the shops in Cumnock offer friendly service, professional advice and excellent value.
Food and general groceries are taken care of with Asda, Costcutter, Farmfoods, Greggs and Spar all within the town centre. If you prefer local suppliers, Pathhead Bakery, Pollock Williamson Butchers and Wm Sloane & Co Family Grocers provide fresh local produce.
Independent clothing stores such as 0290 Designer Clothing and Kenny’s Menswear, together with the larger retailer M & Co cater for men, women and children.
Looking for soft furnishings for your new home? Look no further than Carpets Plus, Curtainwise or Mary’s Fabric Shop. A unique gift for a wedding, christening or birthday, try Gilliland & Co or Maison by Edele. Perhaps a gift for that special someone in your life, David Sadler Jewellers can provide some sparkle.
Wanting to get away for some winter sun? Menzies Travel and Thomas Cook would be able to help. Or maybe even just looking for somewhere to meet friends and catch up on news? Visit Words of Wisdom Café, the Coffee Pot or Millie’s Café.
Plans are underway for the regeneration of Cumnock Town Centre to demolish the existing shopping centre and construct a supermarket with 12 smaller shops. The East Ayrshire Four Towns Enquiry by Design report also proposes that the historic town square be transformed and would include small independent shops.
The best of locally produced produce can be found at the monthly farmers market that takes place in the Square on the fourth Friday of each month. Contact Cumnock Town Centre Regeneration Office to find out more.
The overall objectives of the regeneration project are to:
- Increase viability, vitality and sustainability of Cumnock Town Centre
- Increase employment opportunities within the town centre
- Enhance the Town Centre as a place in which to shop, work and live
- Restore Cumnock as a “market town” for the surrounding communities
